‘BOARDMASTERS 2010

Well, Boardmasters was a treat. It was a mixture of feeling dutty,
checking out mega cow, shouting random words, drinking, some crazy kiddies
bike riding, brilliant views, sun, rain, more drinking and no sleep. So it
was pretty much all round awesome.

Starting off the week with the horrible 4 hour drive down to Newquay on
the Wednesday in the boiling hot, to get there and straight away see the
Essex lot, which was handy so we knew where to camp/park. Then heading
down to Fistral Beach to hook up with James Rodd and get my Media pass,
straight up props to him for hooking me up so I could spend the weekend in
style with everyone in the Athelete’s Lounge, having a great view and with
free Muller Rice, Pot Noodles, Fruit, Sandwhiches, Water and Relentless,
which is pretty much what we all lived on for the next 5 days. As usual
the night came along, and there was alcohol, this was the plan for every
night, this was also the night of “****** fucked your mum” game, where it
was basically think of the worst person possible and put ‘fucked your mum’
on the end, some of my favourites were “Meg Griffin fucked your mum” and
“Eisa Bakos fingerbanged your mum”. The rest of the night was a bit of a
haze.

Second Day, waking up in a car and seeing the attack of the Albatross in
our campsite and one of them staring me out through the window, but other
than that freaky start, this day pretty much was just chilling in the
Athelete’s Lounge, then heading to Wooden Waves, I honestly can’t say we
did much more, purely because everyone was hungover and it was a very nice
day. That night was an even bigger haze. With the Nuts Party going on and
watching the Bikini Contest and skanking the night away to some dirty,
dirty dubstep.

Third Day started much like all the rest, hungover and lazy. Unfortunately
it was raining this morning so we stayed within the campsite for a while,
just waiting for the floor to dry and the annoying sprinkling rain to
finish, but we did see Mega Cow, which was just amazing, to say the least.
Then we could go to the beach, and after seeing everyone ride off to go
have a swim in the sea, and us waiting about 4 hours for Abi to get ready,
we finally got to the beach, again this was a lazy day, with a bit of
riding, on and off, but just the practice, so there wasnt much due to the
occasional showers. But again, the night came and there was much drinking
again. This time with less dubstep, more cheesy songs, a camera and an
encounter with Plan B. This night was also brought to an end by an
Ambulance after a mis-understanding, and a complete idiot deciding he
should start on Bruza, plus a Pile-Driver by Billy, a punch thrown by me
after I got clocked in the Jaw and the pavement showing a kid how to get
an instant broken jaw. But enough of the usual drunk shenaningans, it was
time for bed.

Fourth day came along, with the slight rememberences of the night before
when I woke up with a sore face and a head ache. Today was very hot
indeed, which I admit probably didnt do much for the hangovers of the
camp. But after we finally parked up in the usual 40 minute hunt for a
parking spot at the beach, we saw the Qualifiers which were quality as
expected, putting Alex Coleborn, Ben Hennon and Tobias Wicke into the Top
3, and a nice surprise of Mikey (FFWD’s very own main man) into 9th place,
so props to you for that mate. After the qualifiers we took an
exploration, chilling, taking some snaps and seeing Sean come up with some
sweet ‘Face Down’ game spots, and sacraficing his iPhone, all in the name
of the game. Winding up on the beach again and experiencing a tense
towel-whipping game and watching people trying to ride their bikes on the
sand, we eventually headed back to the camp, but didnt stay there for long
as me, Sam and Ollie went back down to the beach, made the most of my
All-Day parking ticket and taking some shots on the beach as the sun was
setting, which was (in a totally non-gay way) amazing. The night was less
hectic, with no fights, but still just as much alcohol induced and some
people not coming back.

Lastly, the fifth day was upon us, the day of the miniramp finals and
highest air. This day was scorching hot, and was basically the reason for
all my sunburn. After packing up all the tents and headin to the beach,
this day we were actually on time and managed to watch everything, thank
god for the free water, thats all I can say. With some extrodinary riding
and some nuts height, Alex Colburn found himself in 1st and Tobias and
Hennon found themselves in joint 2nd. Highest Air results were Hennon in
1st, Miller in 2nd and Zack Williams finding 3rd. This result was great,
as Hennon made a deal with Ginge, that if he won highest air, he had to
drink the whole 24 crate of Desperados that he would win. So with all the
events done, and Ginge left very drunk, the only thing to do now was to
take the very long, tiring drive home to a decent shower, toilet and bed.

So to sum up Boardmasters 2010, there was drinking, feeling dutty,
catchphrases like “DA FUCK MAN”, “HARRY” and “MARV”, the sighting of mega
cow, ‘Alejandro’ playing way too much, more drinking, a bit of bikes,
beach, sea, sunset, free stuff, a bad diet, manflesh, face down, broken
iphones, lotr geeks and probably do much more, I just cant remember
because of the fact I probably drunk my weight in alcohol and got so spent
more hours driving to and from Newquay than I did sleeping over the whole
5 days.’

‘NASS 2010

NASS 2010, well is there much else to say?
This was my first time taking pictures for a major comp other than the
Worlds 2009 when I took a couple of the Braun Pro Spine, but they weren’t
great. So really I didn’t know what to expect, and after getting a Press
Pass through ffwdbmx, I was stoked just to set up my gear, snap and hope.
But the reason you’re reading this (if you are actually bothering) is
probably not to hear about my highs and lows of shooting a comp, or even
to hear anything about taking some shots. The reason you probably are
reading this is to read about NASS 2010, that is if you weren’t there to
witness the crazyness.

So what was there? Well, there was some crazy shit going down, there was
some ‘heavy tunes’, there was a lot of drunk times, hectic nights and
hungover mornings and there was Basingstokes own ‘theLAB’ hitting it off
in the trade area.

Friday was like any other starting day of a festival, people slowly
started to turn up, while whoever had already turned up in the morning or
the night before got used to the course. But mostly Friday was about
settling in, setting up your tent, and cracking out the first beer…this
is where it got fun. From people wandering around not knowing what was
going on, and random people coming up to you asking you if you wanted and
weed. Watching everyone have a good time and not caring about the
qualifiers the next day which they will most likely be hungover to the max
for.
That’s enough said for Friday, mainly because passed about 10/11pm I can’t
remember much more.

Saturday morning was not a delighful state to wake up to, burning hot sun
making your tent feel like a sauna, had hardly any sleep and still feeling
a bit drunk. Slowly you see everyone clambering out of their tents, and I
see James ‘Bruza’ Ivett staggering across the field in boxers and a towel
with blood all down his arm, he tells me he woke up in a river, and the
police took his Athelete’s Band away, you can always count on either of
the Bruza’s to provide the story of the festival.
But once everyone had got up and showered there was the Qualifiers to take
place where Dan ‘Chunky’ Harris shut the park down for a final trick,
hitting up the Goliath, the Street Course and theLAB stand to witness
girls getting their tits out for a free t-shirt, the day couldnt get much
better, or so I thought…
This is when the evening came and we realise its the last night we are
staying, so we down the rest of the alcohol everyone has and head to the
Atheletes Lounge, which was crazy. I saw the Guildford lot, including
Ollie Burston and Mike King (ffwdbmx main man) throw down some crazy
moves, then I remember pole dancing with the Bruza’s, Paul Miller and Matt
Worthington, and other than that, the night was a bit of a blur mixed with
a horrible circumstance with a broken glow stick, but I don’t like to
remember that. Then taking about 2 hours to walk a 10 min journey back to
camp with Matt Worthington and Jason Phelan, with eventful points like,
how many people can you fit into a phone box? and the bumper cars, then
getting thrown out of the girls toilets with some random girl, I still
have no idea how we ended up in there. Then a sudden downpour causing me
to pass out in my tent in soaking wet clothes, just to wake up the next
morning feeling even worse than I did before.

So Sunday comes around, the day of talking to everyone you remember the
night before, trying to figure out what went down, and no one knowing. So
everyone started packing everything up so we didnt have to do it later
after the Finals.
I’m going to be honest, I didn’t do much that day other than sit at theLAB
stand, extremely sunburnt and try drink as many non-alcoholic fluids as I
could until the BMX Park Finals came around.
The Finals did not disappoint, thats for sure. Seeing some stupid Gaps,
Flip combinations, some Gnarly stacks and just general madness. But I’ll
leave that for the Video’s to show, words can’t even describe. Then after
that it was the horrible, tired, exhausted, still a bit hungover drive
home, just to reflect on how good NASS was this year.

All in all, the mixture of booze, BMX, wicked weather and good times was
awesome, and I really hope it’s as good last year.

After FISE went on, we stayed an extra day but we couldn’t ride the big course, so it was off to the skating course for a little ride. Me and Ryan went to ride horsham yesterday and it was a good day. The sun came out and stayed out which was a first! We had the worst time getting home though, it took 3 hours to get from Horsham to Guildford … need I say more?!

So I figured seeing as I’m shooting a bit more, I should actually remember to post up some photos for everyone. Something which I’m very slack at doing. I manage it on my own site but never here haha. So here’s one I shot the other day of Jack. This is when you know summer’s coming when the sun peaks in the shot.

Ross Penny came along this year to Estonia, and as usual, managed to snap some pretty good photos. Ross was down to have an exclusive feature on FFWD to show off his work, there’s not too many riding photos in here, but Ross did a good job at showing how stunning Tallinn really is, and what going on a trip like this really is about.

Midnight on the dot, the first of February 2010 just saw the relaunch of Sam’s new site. All the photo content on this site aswell as the site design itself is all Sam’s pride and joy, so you don’t need me to tell you how talented he is.

Headed to Skaterham with Mike, Josh, and Timmy the other night. Ben had a bit of a nasty fall in the first 15mins of riding which resulted in a hospital visit. After it died down a bit, I decided to shoot some photos of MICHAAAAAAEL! Bearing in mind I haven’t shot a BMX photo in over 2 months, I’m quite pleased with these . Theres more after the jump.
